Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin plūmeus , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin plūmeus covered with feathers, feathery, composed of or filled with feathers, resembling a feather ( < plūma plume n. + -eus : see -eous suffix) + -ous suffix. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (plū·miəs) /ˈpluːmiːəs/.
Obsolete.
Resembling down or fine feathers, feathery; = plumous adj.
