Etymology: < French point d'arrêt stopping point (late 17th cent., in non-technical uses) < point point n.1 + de de prep. + arrêt (see arrest n.1).
Geometry (now rare).
A point at which a branch of a curve terminates; an end point of a curve; also in extended use.
