Etymology: < pole n.1 + hammer n.1, apparently as reanalysis of early modern Dutch polhaemer (1599; < pol head (see poll n.1, and compare poleaxe n.) + haemer hammer n.1).
Military History.
Any of various kinds of war-hammer.
