Etymology: < the name of Winthrop Mackworth Praed (1802–39), politician, poet, essayist, and writer of society verse + -esque suffix. Compare later Praedian adj. and Praedism n. O.E.D. Suppl. (1982) gives the pronunciation as (prēide·sk) /preɪˈdɛsk/.
