Origin: An imitative or expressive formation.
Etymology: Imitative; perhaps influenced by English regional (Berkshire) pobble the noise made by water bubbling as it starts to boil (see Eng. Dial. Dict. s.v. pobble n.2) and bonk n.
Either of two Australian frogs of the genus Limnodynastes (family Myobatrachidae) having a loud, twang-like, single-note call: L. dorsalis of western Australia and L. dumerili of south-east Australia and Tasmania.
