Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French poitrinaire.
Etymology: < French poitrinaire (1743) < poitrine chest, breast (11th cent. in Old French; < an unattested post-classical Latin form *pectorina < classical Latin pector- , pectus chest, breast (see pectus n.) + -īna -ine suffix4) + -aire -ary suffix1.
Now chiefly literary.
A person suffering from lung disease, spec. tuberculosis.
