Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: poly- comb. form, isoprene n.
Etymology: < poly- comb. form + isoprene n. In quot. 1935 after German Poly-isopren (in Poly-isopren-sulfon (1935 in the paper abstracted in quot. 1935)).
Chemistry.
Any of the polymers of isoprene, which include the major constituent of natural rubber and also some synthetic rubbers very similar to the natural product.
