Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin polyodicus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin polyodicus (1696 in the source referred to in quot. 1806) < poly- poly- comb. form + ancient Greek ᾠδή song (see ode n.) + classical Latin -icus -ic suffix. Compare German polyodisch (1755; < post-classical Latin). Compare earlier polyphonic adj. and also monodic adj.
Music (now rare).
