Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek πολυπράγμων.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πολυπράγμων busy about many things, meddlesome, officious < πολυ- poly- comb. form + πρᾶγμα thing done (see pragmatic adj. and n.). Compare post-classical Latin polypragmon (13th cent. in a British source), French †polipragmon (1611 in an isolated attestation in Cotgrave), and also polypragmatic adj.Apparently reborrowed in 20th cent. With polypragmonic adj. compare earlier polypragmonetic adj., and also earlier polypragmatical adj.
rare after 17th cent.
A person concerned with many affairs; spec. an interfering or officious person, a busybody.
