Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin polysyndeton.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin polysyndeton sentence using many conjunctions (or connecting particles) (4th cent.) < Byzantine Greek πολυσύνδετον , use as noun of neuter of πολυσύνδετος (adjective) using many conjunctions or connecting particles (only recorded (both noun and adjective) as a Greek word in Latin authors, from 4th cent.) < ancient Greek πολυ- poly- comb. form + σύνδετος < συνδεῖν to bind together (see syndetic adj.) + -τος , suffix forming verbal adjectives. Compare later asyndeton n. and syndeton n.The word was reborrowed in the 16th cent.
