Any of various children's chasing games similar to tag.The reciting of the chant given in quot. 1883, or a variant of it, is generally a feature of the game.

1883 N.Y. Times 30 Dec. 5/1 After prison goal came, in the order of popularity, pom pom pullaway... It was usually called pullaway, and that may be the correct name of it. The game was rather one-sided and rather rough. One man stood about the middle of the ground..and the rest gathered in a line on one side of the ground. Then when it was played as it ought to be, the man in the middle of the ground sung out ‘Pom, pom, pullaway; Come quick or I'll fetch you away.[’] And how they came!
