Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Greek πωματ-, πῶμα.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πωματ-, πῶμα lid, cover < the same Indo-European base as Gothic fodr (see fur v.) + the Indo-European base of ancient Greek -μα (see -oma comb. form).
Zoology. Obsolete.
A portion of the occipital lobe of the simian brain that overlaps the external occipital fissure; the occipital operculum. (Cf. operculum n. 4.)

Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Poma.
Etymology: < Poma, the name of a company founded in 1937 by Jean Pomagalski (1905–69), Polish-born French engineer, who invented this ski-lift in 1935.
Skiing.
In full Poma lift (also Pomalift). A proprietary name for: a type of ski lift with detachable supports running on overhead cables.
