Origin: Apparently formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: popular adj., -ocratic comb. form.
Etymology: Apparently < popl- (shortened < popular adj., perhaps after people n.) + -ocratic comb. form. Compare poplocracy n. and slightly earlier Popocrat adj., Popocratic adj. at Popocrat adj. and n.1 Derivatives. N.E.D. (1907) enters this under popocracy1 and indicates the stress as poploˈcratic.
Obsolete.
