Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; probably modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: Latin pōmum , -ology comb. form.
Etymology: < classical Latin pōmum (see pomum n.) + -ology comb. form, probably after post-classical Latin pomologia (1758 in a work title). Compare French pomologie (1828).
The branch of horticulture concerned with the cultivation of fruit. Also (rare): a treatise on this subject.
