Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: beauty n., -ed suffix2; beauty v., -ed suffix1.
Etymology: Partly < beauty n. + -ed suffix2, and partly < beauty v. + -ed suffix1. Compare earlier beautified adj.In quot. ?1614 at sense 1 rare-beautied translates ancient Greek ἰϕθίμος ‘comely, stately’.
Chiefly literary and poetic.
1. As the second element of compounds: having beauty of a specified kind or amount, as little-beautied, rare-beautied, etc.
