Stål Recensio Orthopterorum I. 26; corrected to Acrididae (1890 H. Krauss in Verhandlungen der Kaiserlich-königlichen Zoologisch-botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien 40 270)). Compare French acridés, plural noun (1832 or earlier).In form acridiid after scientific Latin Acridiidae.
