Etymology: < post n.1 + line n.2The holder of the 1821 patent (see quot. 18861) for an elevated railway line is actually Henry Robinson Palmer, but the term post-line is not used in the patent (no. 4618) or in his book Description of a Railway on a New Principle (ed. 2, 1824).
Obsolete. rare.
An elevated railway constructed on posts. More fully post-line railroad.
