1988 Powerlifting (‘Know the Game’ Ser.) 3/1 Powerlifting started in the mid 1950s, in the U.S.A. and Britain. In those early days, the lifts were the curl, bench press and squat in that order... Around 1968, the curl was replaced by the dead lift and the order of competition was changed to that used today: squat, bench press and dead lift.
