Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin postfactus, postfactum.
Etymology: As adjective < classical Latin postfactus done afterwards (see below); as noun < classical Latin postfactum that which is done afterwards (only recorded in phrase ex postfacto : see ex post facto adv. and adj.), use as noun of neuter of postfactus < post after (see post- prefix) + factus , past participle of facere to do, make (see fact n., int., and adv.). Compare post facto adj., post facto adv., post factum adv., post factum adj.In upon the postfact at sense B., rendering classical Latin ex postfacto (see ex post facto adv. and adj.).
