Of, relating to, or designating the period of time subsequent to the Pliocene epoch; formed or occurring subsequent to the Pliocene epoch.Originally used for what is now called the Pleistocene epoch (ending approx. 10,000 years ago); later often extended to cover the whole Quaternary period (which continues to the present).
