Origin: A borrowing from Portuguese. Etymon: Portuguese pousada.
Etymology: < Portuguese pousada inn (959 in a Latin context) < pousar to rest (see pose v.1) + -ada -ade suffix. Compare earlier posada n. 1.
In Portugal: an inn or hotel, esp. one of a chain of hotels administered by the state. Cf. posada n. 1.
