An orange antibiotic and antiseptic compound used esp. to treat minor wounds and also in microscopy for the identification of nucleic acids and polysaccharides. Acriflavine consists of 3,6-diamino-10-methyl-acridinium chloride (C14H14N3Cl), usually also with some 3,6-acridinediamine (C13H11N3). An earlier name for acriflavine was trypaflavine n.
