Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French. Etymon: French potiche.
Etymology: Apparently < French potiche (although this is first attested slightly later in this sense: 1832; 1741 in sense ‘container for lard’ in an apparently isolated attestation) < pot pot n.1 + -iche , probably a variant of -isse < classical Latin -itia -ice suffix1.Not fully naturalized in English.
A large porcelain vase, typically rounded in shape with bulging shoulders and a wide mouth, and frequently having a lid, originally produced in China during the Ming dynasty.
