Origin: Probably a borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin postnatus.
Etymology: Probably < post-classical Latin postnatus (adjective) born after, younger (frequently from 1218 in British sources), (noun) younger son (see postnatus n.) < classical Latin post after (see post- prefix) + nātus born, past participle of nāscī to be born (see nascent adj.). Compare earlier puisne adj., puny adj.
