Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Probably also partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin praedeterminant- , praedeterminans ; pre- prefix, determinant n.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin praedeterminant-, praedeterminans, present participle of praedeterminare predetermine v. In later use probably < pre- prefix + determinant n., after predetermine v. With use as adjective (sense B.) compare earlier predetermining adj. and also predeterminative adj.In plural form praedeterminantes probably after the Latin nominative plural form.
