Etymology: < Spanish presidente governor (of the Philippines) (1604), president, head of state (1812 of the United States of America, 1821 of a Spanish-speaking country), type of Cuban cocktail (not dated in dictionaries of Spanish): see president n.The form el presidente ( < Spanish el presidente the president) is also sometimes found in sense 2:1980 Washington Post (Nexis) 3 Nov. d5 The previously mentioned turkey with Ballet Box Stuffing, salted peanuts, a round of El Presidentes.
