Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pre- prefix, critical adj. and n.
Etymology: < pre- prefix + critical adj. and n. With the specific use in philosophy compare German vorkritisch (1873 or earlier).
Previous to the critical treatment of a subject; prior to critical analysis, or the development of a critical faculty, method, etc.; (Philosophy) prior to the development of Kant's critical philosophy in his Kritik der reinen Vernunft ( Critique of Pure Reason) (1781).
