Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: preem n.1, -ing suffix1.
Etymology: < preem n.1 + -ing suffix1. N.E.D. (1907) included both this and preemer n. under the headword preem (verb), defined as ‘to clean the teasels ? with a preem or comb’, but with only the quots. given below (together with quot. a1903 at preemer n.) as documentation, from which the verb was apparently inferred.
Weaving. Obsolete.
The action or task of cleaning the teasel rods and handles at a cotton mill.
