Etymology: < bench test n.
transitive. To run a test or series of tests on (a device, component, etc.) to ensure that it is working correctly before use or before being made available commercially; to assess the performance of (a product, device, etc.) by running tests. Also occasionally intransitive (with adverb or adverbial phrase): (of a device, component, product, etc.) to give specified results during a bench test.
