Etymology: < preach v. + -ery suffix. Compare French prêcherie action of reproving (a person) severely (second half of the 18th cent.; earlier in sense ‘sermon’ (early 14th cent. in Old French)).
Frequently depreciative.
Preaching (in various senses); behaviour, advice, etc., considered characteristic of a preacher.
