单词 | precocene |
释义 | precocenen. Biochemistry. Any of several hormones, originally discovered in plants, which induce the premature metamorphosis of some insect larvae into frequently sterile adults, and are used to control insect populations. ΚΠ 1976 W. S. Bowers in L. I. Gilbert Juvenile Hormones 397 Figure 2 details the identification of two antiallatotropins from Ageratum: 7-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl chromene and 6,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl chromene. In view of their induction of precocious metamorphosis I named them precocene I and II, respectively. 1980 Nature 27 Mar. 320/1 It is not known how the natural product precocene-I, its congener precocene-II, or related analogues, cause selective necrosis of cells in the corpora allata..of sensitive insects. 2004 Indian Jrnl. Exper. Biol. 42 74 The results suggest that precocene induced effects are due to deficiency of juvenile hormone. This is a new entry (OED Third Edition, March 2007; most recently modified version published online March 2022). < n.1976 |
