Etymology: < press n.1 + bed n. Compare earlier presser n.1 1b.
In later use chiefly Scottish and Irish English (northern). Now historical.
A bed constructed to fold up into a type of cupboard resembling a clothes-press when not in use; a bed in an alcove with folding doors; = press bedstead n.; (also occasionally) a box-bed.
