Etymology: Partly < French †pressurage grape juice extracted by means of a press (1611 in Cotgrave, but apparently not otherwise recorded in dictionaries of French; apparently a transferred use of pressurage action of using a wine press (16th cent. in Middle French), alteration (with suffix substitution: compare -ure suffix1) of †pressoerage action of using a wine press (1342; < pressoirer to press (grapes) (see presserage n.) + -age -age suffix)), and partly < French †pressurage fee paid to a feudal overlord for the use of the communal wine press (1380 in Middle French), alteration (with suffix substitution: compare -ure suffix1) of †pressorage presserage n.
