With sense 1 compare Old Frisian prīmtīd , Middle Dutch prīmetijt (Dutch †priemtijd ), Middle Low German prīmetīt , prīmentīt , Middle High German prīmezīt , prīmzīt (German †Primzeit ), Old Icelandic prímatíð , Old Swedish prīms tīdh , and later prime time n.1 In sense 2 (which is apparently not paralleled in the Germanic languages) probably after Middle French printemps (see prime temps n.); compare earlier prime temps n., prime time n.2
