Etymology: < classical Latin proslambanomenos added note at the bottom of a system of tetrachords (Vitruvius) < Hellenistic Greek προσλαμβανόμενος , use as noun (short for προσλαμβανόμενος τόνος ) of medio-passive participle of ancient Greek προσλαμβάνειν to take or receive besides or in addition < προς in addition (see prosody n.) + λαμβάνειν to take (see -labe comb. form).
