Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin procatalepsis.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin procatalepsis rhetorical figure by which an opponent's objections are anticipated and answered (6th cent.) < ancient Greek προκατάληψις , literally ‘seizing in advance’ < προ- pro- prefix2 + κατάληψις seizing (see catalepsy n.), after προκαταλαμβάνειν to seize beforehand, to anticipate.
