Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element; modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: Latin Psylla , -id suffix3.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Psylla (see psylla n.) + -id suffix3, after scientific Latin Psyllidae, family name ( P. A. Latreille Genera crustaceorum et insectorum (1807) III. 169). Compare French Psyllides, plural noun (1807 in Latreille).
Entomology.

Of, relating to, or characteristic of the homopteran family Psyllidae, which comprises the jumping plant lice, minute winged hopping insects resembling miniature cicadas, several of which damage plants by causing galls or spreading virus diseases.
