Etymology: < classical Latin prōcrāstināt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of prōcrāstināre to put off till the next day, to defer, delay < prō- pro- prefix1 + crāstinus belonging to tomorrow (see crastin n.). Compare Middle French procrastiner procrastine v., Italian procrastinare (c1300). Compare procrastination n., procrastine v.
1. intransitive. To defer action, delay; to be dilatory.Often with the sense of deferring through indecision, when early action would have been preferable.
