Schultze Beiträge zur Naturgeschichte der Turbellarien (1851) 3; < ancient Greek πρωκτός anus (see procto- comb. form) + -οχος , o-grade form related to ἔχειν to have (see Hector n.) + scientific Latin -a -a suffix²) + -ous suffix.

Zoology. Obsolete.

Of a worm's gut: terminating in an anus. Of a worm, esp. a turbellarian flatworm: having such a gut. Cf. aproctous adj.
