单词 prodrome
释义

prodromen.adj.

Brit. /ˈprəʊdrəʊm/, U.S. /ˈproʊˌdroʊm/
Forms: 1600s prodrom, 1600s– prodrome.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French prodrome.
Etymology: < French prodrome forerunner (1548 in Middle French), preface, introduction (1665), symptom premonitory of a disease (1765) < classical Latin prodromus prodromus n. Compare Italian prodromo (a1498). N.E.D. (1908) gives the pronunciation as (prǫ·drǫ̆m) /ˈprɒdrəm/ and comments on the spelling ‘Better prodrom’, but this form is very rarely found (and when it is, may simply show an error for prodrom. as a graphic abbreviation for classical Latin prodromus in bibliographical references).
