单词 pronunciamiento
释义

pronunciamienton.

Brit. /prəˌnʌnsɪəˈm(j)ɛntəʊ/, /prəˌnʌnʃ(ɪ)əˈm(j)ɛntəʊ/, U.S. /proʊˌnən(t)ʃ(i)əˈm(j)ɛn(t)oʊ/, /proʊˌnənsiəˈm(j)ɛn(t)oʊ/
Forms: 1800s pronounciamiento, 1800s– pronunciamento, 1800s– pronunciamiento.
Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish pronunciamiento.
Etymology: < Spanish pronunciamiento speech (first half of the 13th cent.), proclamation, pronouncement of a sentence (early 15th cent.; frequently in legal use), attempted military coup (involving a declaration or manifesto) (1821 with reference to a revolt in Spain in January 1820 led by General Rafael Riego (compare quot. 2000 at sense 2); 1830 in extended use with reference to similar coups in Latin American countries, e.g. Cuba, Venezuela) < pronunciar pronounce v. + -miento -ment suffix. Compare French pronunciamento insurrection, uprising (1836 with reference to events in Mexico; also pronunciamiento (1864); < Spanish). N.E.D. (1908) enters this under pronunciamento , and gives the pronunciation as (pronɒnsiăme·nto) /prəʊnʌnsɪəˈmɛntəʊ/. This form, which is still common in sense 1, may represent a borrowing of the nonstandard Spanish variant pronunciamento, or show the influence of French pronunciamento (although both of these are apparently first attested slightly later: 1842 and 1836 respectively), or may simply result from dissimilation within English; compare also -ment suffix. In form pronounciamiento apparently influenced by pronounce v.
