Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek προοιμιακός.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek προοιμιακός of or for a preface, in Byzantine Greek also introductory, of hymns used in preparation for liturgy < ancient Greek προοίμιον proem n. + -ακός -ac suffix. Compare earlier proemial adj.
