Biochemistry.

Any of a large group of unsaturated, oxygenated fatty acids which have a wide variety of physiological effects, esp. in the control of smooth muscle activity (in the uterus, blood vessels, bronchia, etc.) and in inflammatory responses.The prostaglandins have molecular structures based on that of prostanoic acid.
