1931 Metrop. Mus. Art Bull. 26 29/1 This proto-Hittite site was discovered and excavated by Baron von Oppenheim.

Gurney Hittites vi. 122 The name Proto-Hittite has been widely adopted in order to avoid confusion with the official Hittite, but is somewhat misleading, since it suggests an earlier stage of Hittite, whereas it is a language totally unrelated to the latter. The name Hattian is preferable.
