Etymology: < proto- comb. form + corm n.2, after French protocorme (M. Treub 1890, in Ann. Jardin Bot. de Buitenzorg 8 30).
Botany.
In clubmosses and orchids, which grow in association with mycorrhiza: a tuberous body, with rhizoids, representing the embryonic plant and giving rise to primordial leaves.
