单词 pseudokarst
释义

pseudokarstn.

Brit. /ˈs(j)uːdə(ʊ)kɑːst/, U.S. /ˈsudoʊˌkɑrst/
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: pseudo- comb. form, karst n.
Etymology: < pseudo- comb. form + karst n., ultimately after German Pseudo-Verkarstung ( W. von Knebel Höhlenkunde (1906) xix. 183; the usual German term is Pseudokarst (1975 or earlier)). Compare Italian pseudocarsismo (noun), pseudocarsico (adjective) (G. B. Floridia 1941, in Boll. della Soc. di Sci. Nat. ed Econ. di Palermo 23 12). Compare also the following quot.:1960 Bull. Nat. Speleol. Soc. 22 ii. 109/1 About 25 years ago, European geologists began to discuss features of non-solutional origin which are analogous to those of areas of karstic geomorphology. These they termed pseudokarst... Hans Peter Kosack, noted German geomorphologist, believes that the term pseudokarst was first employed in print in an Italian publication in 1941... However, as Dr. Kosack has pointed out (pers. comm.),..H. Cramer employed the term in an unpublished study of the karst of the British Isles which was prepared in 1936, and believes that the term was in use in Europe as early as 1930.
