Originally: any of various forms of lymphoid neoplasia or hyperplasia in which there is no increase in lymphocytes in the peripheral blood (now disused). In later use: any of various non-malignant conditions in which there is a leukocytosis resembling that of leukaemia. ΚΠ 1870 J. M. Da Costa Med.
