释义 | pseudomonasn. Biology. A bacterium of the genus Pseudomonas (family Pseudomonadaceae), which comprises chemoautotrophic, Gram-negative, usually rod-shaped cells, typically motile (with polar flagella), that occur very widely in soil, water, and decaying organic material, and include saprophytes and plant and animal pathogens; (in form Pseudomonas) the genus itself. Frequently attributive. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the type species of the genus, is an opportunistic pathogen of humans and a major cause of hospital infections. Glanders in animals and melioidosis in humans are caused by P. mallei and P. pseudomallei, respectively. The many pathovars of P. syringae cause blights, leaf-spots, and other diseases in plants.
