Chem. 14 201), itself apparently after schwarzer Glaskopf (1828 (in the same source) or earlier). Compare French psilomélane (1841 or earlier).Quot. 1831 is from a paper read on 11 December 1827 but not published until later. It translates the corresponding German passage (with the coinage) in Haidinger's article (which was itself published in 1828). N.E.D. (1909) gives the pronunciation as (psəilǫ·mĕleⁱn) /psaɪˈlɒməleɪn/.
