Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin psittacus , -ist suffix; Greek ψιττακός , -ist suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin psittacus or its etymon Hellenistic Greek ψιττακός parrot (see psittac n.) + -ist suffix, after psittacism n. Compare French psittaciste (1920 or earlier). Compare earlier psittacistically adv.
